Kinka Beach, Hervey Bay and Gold Coast

We caught up with a good friend in Hervey Bay and soaked up the chilled out vibe of this sleepy little seaside town – think ‘Gold Coast’ but twenty years ago (minus the surf). Sleepy cafes on the beach front, gorgeous sunsets and stand-up paddle boarding to start off a perfect day!

Then fast forwarding twenty years, we drove on to the present Gold Coast and stayed with my beautiful Aunty and Uncle for a few nights. The weather turned on especially for us and the doggos loved running up and down Palm Beach. Thanks Aunty J and Uncle R for the great chats, warm beds, wine and music! We had a ball!!

Bloomsbury to Kinka Beach (Yeppoon)

It finally felt like we were living our new life as nomads when we passed Mackay (after a quick cup-of-tea stop with Dan’s Grandad who will be turning 93 in June) then onto the lovely Yeppoon area. We found a pet friendly caravan park at Kina Beach (between Yeppoon and Emu Park) and set up the tent for the full dress rehearsal of the “camping with dogs life” we have committed to for at least the next 2 months. We all (including the doggos) had an awesome time there and were hooked for the next part of the trip!

The Tropical North – Cairns

Road trip, loonnggg breakfasts, scones and tea, cocktails, live music, thought provoking conversation, an aquarium, rainforest, waterfalls and of course lots of laughs. Catching up with my best friends in tropical Cairns was well overdue and I loved every second of it! Getting to see The Cat Empire (my all time favourite band) was the icing on the cake!

Open Water Divers

After years of talking about it, we finally did it! We are officially certified Open Water Divers thanks to Pleasure Divers on Magnetic Island. Perfect timing as we have been talking about a potential quick trip to Borneo sometime in August for some of the world’s best diving.

The weather was windy and wavy at Magnetic Island and we had a less than ideal 0.5-1m visibility on day 1 in the open ocean and about 2m of visibility on the second day….needless to say, any diving we do from now on will be mind-blowing.
